What Is EMDR Therapy?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured, evidence-based psychotherapy that helps individuals process and heal from trauma and other distressing life experiences. During EMDR therapy, clients briefly focus on a traumatic memory while simultaneously engaging in bilateral stimulation—often through guided eye movements. This dual attention process has been shown to reduce the vividness and emotional charge of trauma-related memories.EMDR is extensively researched and recognized as an effective treatment for PTSD, supported by major health and trauma organizations worldwide.
